The Ruwanwelisaya is a stupa and a hemispherical structure containing relics in sri Lanka. It was built by King Dutugemunu. This is the most sacred of stupa in Anuradhapura. It is also known as “Mahathupa”, “Swarnamali Chaitya”, “Suvarnamali Mahaceti”and “Rathnamali Dagaba”. Two quarts or one Drona of the Buddha’s relics are enshrined in the stupa, which is the largest collection of his relics anywhere. This stupa is so massive and beautifully designed. In the surroundings you can also see the granite statues of the King and his mother, Queen ‘’Vihara Maha Devi’’.
